I was interested in knowing more about how people felt as it pertains to them taking care of themselves.  Therefore, I posted an engaging question on my Facebook page. On a scale from 1 to 10 how well do you think you take care of yourself?” (1 being poor – 10 being excellent).

Although the responses varied I observed that the highest numbers came from men (with the exception of a few women). The women rated themselves well, but there were too many who fell below a 5.  This made me wonder why that may be. Especially since research still validates that men live shorter lives than women due to their unbelief in the need for self-care.  When I looked at the responses of the men who rated themselves at an 8 or above I was able to correlate healthy eating, exercise, travel and ambition to their lifestyles.

Research links self-care with exercise and it also reveals that many women feel as if they have no time for that kind of strain in their lives when they have to care for the kids, home needs, their parent’s needs along with the “dog’s” needs FIRST. The multiple roles that women take on are seemingly catching up with us which in turn does not allow us to care for ourselves the way we ought to.

Self-Care is defined differently by different people and invariably “perspective is everything.”  Self-Care is relevant to your physical, spiritual, mental and emotional well-being, but first it is vital that you come to that realization; no matter man or woman.

For those who rate their self-care at an 8 or above, what are some things you do or don’t do that allows you to reach this esteemed number and what would make it a 10?  Are you willing to take that step to make it an EXCELLENT rating reaching for a 10? For those who are 5 and below, have you identified the crisis because that’s exactly what is going to happen if you do not begin to put yourself first in some ways. It is VITAL that you identify where the lack is only because in order to give our BEST we must become our BEST!

The challenge charged to you is this: evaluate every relationship in your life and your perspective (your outlook) as to how you view life and your overall health in general. Begin to monitor the words that come out of your mouths as well as other people’s mouths. Our words have the ability to shape our world. Get motivated!! The time is NOW.

You’ve just been ReVITALIZED!!!
